The Director Guide for Uma Fighters
Money, summons, dual movesets, and high-level combo strategy.
The Director is Uma Fighters’ skill-check character. Where Aurora wins through clean confirms and fundamentals, The Director wins by spending money wisely, layering summons, and swapping entire movesets mid-fight with R. He sits in A-tier on our Tier List not because he is weak, but because every mistake taxes your economy and opens you to hard punishes from disciplined opponents.
Pick The Director after you understand M1 timing, block discipline, and Awaken windows from the Getting Started Guide. This page covers his unique systems and how to convert them into real PvP pressure.
The Money System Explained
Unlike Aurora, several of The Director’s strongest tools cost in-game money. Money is earned during combat — landing hits, applying pressure, and staying alive all contribute. Think of it as a second meter you manage beside Awaken.
| Principle | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Never spend on guess hits | Whiffed money attacks drain your budget and leave long recovery |
| Bank before all-ins | Enter combo routes only when you can afford finishers |
| Punish = refund | Opponents who waste Q or F give you free economic advantage |
| Awaken multiplies value | Enhanced window is when expensive tools hurt most |
If you are broke mid-fight, play spacing with M1 pokes, block on F, and dash on Q until income catches up. Broke Director play should look boring — that is correct.
Summons and Bodyguards
The Director’s summon abilities add bodies on the field that distract, chip, or extend pressure. Summons are not win buttons; they are tools to force bad decisions.
Strong summon habits:
- Call summons after you establish corner, not before — extras push opponents into walls faster
- Use summons to cover your recovery after a money skill whiff recovery is too dangerous alone
- Let summons trade while you reposition with W+W run or Q evasive
- During Awaken (G), summons often gain stronger presence — stack them at the start of your transformation window
Weak summon habits:
- Summoning at full neutral range where opponents ignore extras and hit you
- Chasing every summon kill instead of the player
- Burning money on summons when you needed a combo finisher

Dual Moveset: R Special Swap
Press R to swap between two movesets. Each set changes how skills 1–4 behave, which means The Director can adapt mid-match without swapping characters.
| Decision Point | Moveset A Mindset | Moveset B Mindset |
|---|---|---|
| Opponent turtles on F | Look for grab-style or armor tools if your set has them | Switch to pressure tools that chip guard |
| Opponent spams Q | Hold skills until dash ends, then punish | Swap to long-range money poke |
| You are low on money | Favor cheaper M1 routes in the economical set | Save swap until you can afford the expensive set |
| Awaken active | Commit to the set with best burst finishers | Do not swap mid-animation — plan before pressing G |
Tell a story with your swap: fake aggression in one set, swap, then punish their conditioned response. Random R mashing telegraphs inexperience.
Advanced Combo Routes
Director combos cost more brainpower than Aurora’s, but damage ceilings are higher when resources align.
Money Confirm Route
- M1 hit confirm at safe range — do not full chain if the first hit does not connect.
- Skill 1 or money-enabled skill on reaction.
- Summon during opponent hitstun if you need extension, not before confirm.
- R Special or Skill 4 finisher if budget allows.
- Chase with Q or W+W vault if they bounce off a wall.
Summon Trap Route
- Push toward corner with M1 and movement.
- Place summon so escape path overlaps chip damage.
- Swap moveset with R if they expect the first set’s timing.
- Punish jump escape with air dash Q+Space+W/S follow-up.
For universal cancel rules and punish frames shared by all characters, read the Combos Guide.
Resource Management Under Pressure
The Director loses when panic overrides economy. Use this priority list when stressed:
- Survive — block (F) or dash (Q) before spending money.
- Confirm — M1 first hit only, then commit skills.
- Extend — summons after confirm, not before.
- Spend — money finishers when kill threshold is realistic.
- Awaken — G when summons and money align for a kill window.
If Aurora is bullying you in neutral, slow down. She wants fast, simple trades. Deny that by blocking, backing out with S, and punishing whiffed dash-ins. See the Aurora Guide for what she is trying to do against you.
Ultimate (Awaken) on The Director
Director Awaken often emphasizes army-style pressure — multiple allies and enhanced skills. Activate when:
- Summons are already on field and opponent cooldowns are down
- You have money for at least one full expensive route
- Corner or platform limits escape
Do not Awaken broke and summon-less at max range. Full meter strategy lives in the Ultimate Mode Guide.
Controls Refresher
Director uses the same global layout as every fighter: M1 combo, skills 1/2/3/4, F block, R Special (plus moveset swap for him), Q dash/evasive/dropkick, G Awaken, B emotes, right-click character select. Master air dash (Q+Space+W/S) and super jump timing from the Controls Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How does The Director's money system work?
Certain abilities cost in-game money earned by fighting. You must land confirms before spending on expensive tools. Whiffing money attacks drains your budget and leaves you open to punishes.
When should I summon as The Director?
Summon after you confirm a hit or establish corner pressure, not at random neutral range. Summons extend combos and cover recovery — they are not substitutes for M1 timing.
What does R do on The Director?
R is his Special, and it also swaps between two movesets. Each set changes how skills 1–4 behave. Swap deliberately to punish conditioned blocks and dashes, not on cooldown autopilot.
Should beginners play The Director?
Start with Aurora until M1 chains, block, dash, and Awaken feel natural. The Director's economy and summons punish sloppy fundamentals harder than Aurora does.
How do I beat Aurora as The Director?
Do not overextend into her Skill 3 counter reads. Manage money for safe pokes, use summons to clutter her simple routes, and swap movesets when she expects repeat timing.
